i. XTreeNet 1.0
---------------

XTree Company, publishers of XTree and XTreePro, the industry standards in disk management software for the IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 and compatible computers, extends its product line into the Novell Network marketplace with the release of XTreeNet(TM).

Like XTree and XTreePro, XTreeNet provides workstation users with a clear graphic display of their directory using a tree structure, and updates all statistical data as organizational tasks are performed. With XTreeNet, users can quickly access, delete, rename, edit, view, list, print or copy any combination of files within any or all directories on any number of logged, fixed or floppy drives, all with a single keystroke. DOS-like commands are organized into an intuitive interface and on-line help screens provide quick reference checks.

Unlike XTree and XTreePro, XTreeNet is specifically licensed for a Novell network and supports and validates all Novell NetWare security rights before any operation is performed. For the first time, workstation users can manage personal files on the network server as well as on their individual workstation disks.

HIGHEST LEVEL OF NETWORK SECURITY

In addition to its disk management capabilities, XTreeNet offers network supervisors the highest level of security available in the network environment.

XTreeNet enhances NetWare's security features by allowing the supervisor to restrict the programs or files within a given directory to which a particular user or group of users may have access. With XTreeNet, the network supervisor can designate authorized users, set up XTreeNet's program defaults and determine whether system or hidden files should be displayed.

For further protection, only the files and directories to which a user has access rights and can be operated on are displayed. Other files or directories are "invisible" to users without proper authorization. Supervisors can also limit which XTreeNet commands are available for each user in each directory.

MORE THAN DISK MANAGEMENT

XTreeNet's new productivity features include the ability to manage up to 16,000 files, log-on to 26 drives simultaneously, and eliminate typing path commands using a destination pointer. Other new features include: file attribute security to protect movement or deletion of hidden and system files, multiple file specifications so users can work with up to four particular types of files, and a DOS- like command line that saves the last 16 commands in a Command History.

Like XTreePro, XTreeNet also includes a built-in ASCII text editor called 1Word(TM) that features most word processing functions, an easy-to-use command structure and WordStar- like commands. With 1Word users can edit any file and even remove embedded control characters from text files. 1Word can also mark, move, copy or delete a block of text, and offers search and replace capabilities.

EXCLUSIVE FEATURES

While XTreePro and XTreeNet share many similar features, there are many major differences between the two utilities, according to Leonard. For example, XTreeNet allows the NetWare shareable attribute to be modified. XTreeNet displays NetWare file information such as the creation date, last accessed dates, file owner, and whether the file is flagged as indexed or transactional.

PRICING AND REQUIREMENTS

XTreeNet retails for $395 per server and is shipping now.

XTreeNet requires an IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 or 100% compatible computer workstation, DOS 2.1 or higher, 256K and Novell Advanced NetWare version 2.0A, 2.1x, or NetWare 286 ELS. XTreeNet includes both 3.5" and 5.25" disks and is not copy protected. Telephone technical support is also available free of charge to registered users.

ii. XTreeMac
------------

XTreeMac(TM), the world's first integrated Macintosh utility to combine disk management with file undelete and security protection has been released by the XTree Company, publishers of XTree and XTreePro, the industry standards in disk management software for the IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 and compatible computers.

XTreeMac is not just a collection of separate disk management utilities, or a set of individual tools designed for the PC and transported to the Macintosh. XTreeMac is a completely integrated utility that takes full advantage of the intuitive Macintosh user interface and offers users a new and better way to organize, manage and protect valuable hard disk information.

With XTreeMac, Macintosh users can finally see a graphic representation of files in a meaningful tree-like display. In seconds, XTreeMac shows users a complete picture of their hard or floppy disk. The $99 utility lets users easily locate, copy, move and delete files from multiple folders, on multiple volumes without clicking their way through a series of windows.

EXCLUSIVE FEATURES

To work with multiple files from multiple disks simultaneously, XTreeMac has a unique split-window that brings speed and simplicity to file management. While the left side of the window displays the Directory Tree, the right side, called the Deskpad, becomes a visual work surface where files can be gathered and folders manipulated.

Deskpad is a convenient collection area where users can assemble files, folders and any application they want to work with. Once inside Deskpad, users can work with items individually or in groups. Files can be copied or moved to a new location or combined with a new folder or dumped in the trash. For the first time, Macintosh users can manage files and clean up their hard disks without moving through a series of windows.

Deskpad and the Directory Tree greatly enhances all Macintosh Finder features. Using XTreeMac's Enhanced Finder, users can quickly copy, move, delete, or view file information, create new folders or rename them directly from both the Deskpad and the Directory Tree. For added efficiency, files can be sorted by name, creation date, modification date, size and kind.

XTreeMac also features a powerful alternative to the Macintosh Find File called Find and Launch that eliminates the need to manually search through multiple folders -- or even a directory tree -- to "find" and "launch" a file. Using Find and Launch, users can search for files or applications which are then automatically displayed on the directory tree. Single or multiple files can be opened using a single click of a mouse.

COMPLETE HARD DISK PROTECTION

In addition to its file management capabilities, XTreeMac offers Macintosh users a unique combination of exclusive hard disk protection and security features including data recovery and security protection.

Revive-a-File is an ingenious utility that actually remembers the location of deleted files on both a hard and floppy disk for later recovery. Users can recover deleted documents, folders, and applications even after an application has been launched, trashed or the power has been turned off.

XTreeMac provides security features to hide, lock, or protect files from being copied. The program can also color-code files (on a Macintosh II only), adding another level of organization and security.

XTreeMac is so versatile users can customize their tree displays for specific tasks, so only pertinent items are displayed. For example, users can create custom filters that display only spreadsheet applications, folders, and documents. Users can also specify how many levels of folders they want to see.

XTreeMac also provides a handy feature that quickly generates and prints diskette labels on both any 100% Apple Compatible printer.

REQUIREMENTS

XTreeMac is self-installing and requires an Apple Macintosh 512e, Plus, SE, or II with at least one 3.5" floppy drive, System Version 4.2 and Finder Version 5.3 or higher. Supports HFS only. Telephone technical support is also available free of charge to registered users.

iii. XTreeGold 2.0
------------------

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA -- December 17, 1990 -- XTree Company has released XTreeGold version 2.0, the latest edition of its award-winning hard disk file management software. With this release, even the XTreeGold packaging and manuals are news -- because for the first time, they all have been created from recycled materials.

   The Computer Operating Environment

In addition to streamlining XTreeGold's name (from XTreePro Gold), version 2.0 has been beefed up and fine-tuned to make it both more sophisticated and easier to use. In other words, version 2.0 accomplishes the impossible by simultaneously shielding users from awkward DOS commands while giving them instant DOS power (via pull-down menus and the enhanced XTree Application Menu). The new XTreeGold interface provides an intuitive, powerful operating environment.

XTree X-perts will also be pleased with version 2.0's new power tools (including Undelete, Compare, more Viewers, etc.).

   New Features - Operating Environment

The Pull-Down Menus and XTree Application Menu provide a complete operating environment -- especially for new users.

Pull-Down Menus -- XTreeGold commands are now visible via easy-to-use keyboard or mouse accessible menus. It's easier than ever to find the right XTreeGold command. (Users who prefer the familiar command line, may by-pass this feature completely -- or simply use it for quick help.)

XTree Applications Menu -- Able to recognize over 700 applications, XTreeGold can automatically search your hard drive and build a personal Application Menu for you. The XTreeMenu (with its unique outlining feature) can be conveniently set to pop up whenever you turn on your computer, or invoke XTreeGold. When the XTreeMenu is used to launch other applications (such as WordPerfect or Excel) XTreeMenu's overhead is a scant 7K.

New Features - XTreeGold "X-orcises" the Competition

XTreeGold continues to set the standard for hard disk file management software with a powerful, unique set of tools not found in any other single product. In addition to XTreeGold's commands to prune and graft directories, outline/collapse directories, delete files/directories, copy/move files, list files across directories/drives, find text in files, "wipe disks" (complete erase), change file attributes, and much more -- XTreeGold now adds:

Undelete Files -- An "Oops!" command makes it easy to retrieve deleted files with the tap of a key.

Viewers -- Greatly expanded file viewer list, now includes Excel, Paradox, Quattro, QuattroPro, Lotus 123, dBase, WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, and WordStar, Multimate, Professional Write, PFS, XyWrite, Wang PC, Volkswriter, Total Word, Q&A Write, and many others.

Zip Manager -- Now adds the industry standard ZIP format. Create, view and unzip archive files, saving valuable disk space.

Compare -- Select two directories (even on two separate drives) for comparison and XTreeGold will instantly tag files in one directory that are not contained in another. This exclusive features simplifies the search for and deletion of unneeded, duplicate files.

Partial Logging -- Allows you instant access to XTreeGold without logging the entire drive. Then, log only those directories you wish to work with. Those with large disks (or CD-ROMs) will save time by skipping unnecessary logging.

"Move" Across Drives -- "Move" will automatically perform both copy and delete with one powerful command.

   Our Environment

With the launching of XTreeGold, XTree Company is using recycled materials to create packaging and manuals. Further, everything but the floppy disk is recyclable. Not only will their products be environmentally aware, but XTree Company is implementing a comprehensive recycling plan for its corporate offices.

   Pricing, Availability, Requirements

XTreeGold retails for $149.00 US, and is available now through your vendor's distribution network, which includes Ingram/Micro D, Kenfil, Merisel, Software Resource, and XTree Authorized Resellers, which include Egghead, Soft Warehouse, Software Etc., and other nationwide chains.

In Canada, XTree Company products are represented exclusively by Fusion International, a privately-owned market development company specializing in representing American software companies in Canada. For more information, contact Fusion Interna- tional Vice-President Marketing, Dale J. Beckles, at 416/866-8592.

XTreeGold is designed to run on any PC, XT, AT, PS/2 or compatible systems with DOS 3.1 or later, and at least 256K RAM. Both 5.25" and 3.5" disks are provided. Telephone technical support is available free of charge to registered users.

Registered users of XTree products may upgrade to XTreeGold for $35 from XTree Company. Users of competitive products may upgrade to XTreeGold for $50. Call (800) 282-5003 to order upgrades.

iv. xtree for UNIX Systems 1.0
------------------------------

XTree COMPANY RELEASES "xtree for UNIX"
UNIX's First Character-Based File And Disk Manager Makes Worldwide Debut At PC EXPO

NEW YORK, NY -- June 25, 1991 -- With the release of xtree for UNIX, XTree Company introduces award-winning file manipulation capabilities (familiar to DOS users) to the multi-user UNIX operating system allowing users to forget about cryptic, must-look-up UNIX commands in favor of xtree for UNIX's simple one or two-keystroke commands.

xtree for UNIX, slated to ship late August, retails for $295 and will support SCO UNIX V/386 release 3.2, SCO Xenix 386 release 2.3.2 and higher, and Interactive Systems UNIX V/386 3.2.

   Tree-Like Display for UNIX!

When xtree for UNIX is launched, users are greeted with the graphic representation of their files in a meaningful tree-like display well-known to DOS XTree users. Although xtree for Unix sports commands such as tag/untag, filespec, global, showall, autoview, prune, graft, split screen, etc. common to other XTree products, that is just the beginning.

"xtree for UNIX is not just a collection of separate disk management utilities, or a set of individual tools designed for MS-DOS and transported to UNIX" explains Bob Kimball, XTree Company Vice President of Marketing. "xtree for UNIX is an integrated utility that takes full advantage of the UNIX operating system and offers system administrators and users a new and better way to organize, manage and protect valuable hard disk information."

xtree for UNIX Gives Power To the People

Just because xtree for UNIX will let users see everything on their system doesn't mean they want to. xtree for UNIX allows flexible "level logging" to let users view only as much of their system as is useful.

xtree for UNIX even goes so far as to enhance UNIX with its unique NODE command which lets users break their system tree down into one or more logical BRANCHES for easier handling.

UNIX users will also appreciate xtree for UNIX's simplification of the file-search process. With xtree for UNIX's GOTO command -- all the user has to do is type the first few letters of the file name and voila (no more scrolling through long lists of files)! The ASCII and HEX file viewers in xtree for UNIX make identifying the right file that much easier.

Or, rather than grapple with GREP, xtree for UNIX users can now simply tag groups of files and have xtree for UNIX automatically search for specified text within those files.

Backing up in UNIX just became a simple task with xtree for UNIX's BACKUP command (based on TAR). Again, it's a simple matter of tagging the files (or groups of files) to be backed up to tape or floppy -- then xtree for UNIX does the rest.

   Space, The Final Frontier

In some UNIX implementations, system managers and users can, for the first time, reclaim hard disk space and improve system performance with xtree for UNIX's powerful COMPACT command. COMPACT removes directory entries for deleted files, cutting size, search, and access times for those directories.

   xtree for UNIX Supports Administrators

xtree for UNIX will not override any security established by the system administrator. Users work strictly within their existing UNIX permissions, typically seeing their home directory when starting up xtree for UNIX. And, xtree for UNIX requires no modifications to UNIX itself.

xtree for UNIX Takes Advantage of Consoles & Terminals

xtree for UNIX takes full advantage of built-in console functions, such as color, line- drawing characters, and keyboard functions. Further, terminals supported by TERMCAP can be used with xtree for UNIX as long as the terminal supports cursor movement, screen functions (e.g. clear screen, clear to end of line, etc.), and has a screen display of at least 80 columns by 24 rows. Finally, if a terminal supports color, line-drawing characters, and local printers, xtree for UNIX can be configured to take advantage of those features as well.

   Project Green

In 1990, XTree Company launched "Project Green" and became the first major publisher to produce software products using recycled or environmentally sensitive materials.

xtree for UNIX upholds the Project Green promise with a package created completely from recycled and recyclable materials. As with XTreeGold, XTreeNet and the recently released XTree Easy, everything except the floppy disk and the shrink-wrap can be recycled. (The company is currently looking for alternatives to shrink-wrapping their products.)

For every xtree for Unix user registration card returned, XTree Company, in conjunction with the American Forestry Association's Global ReLeaf Program, will plant a tree.

   Pricing, Availability, Requirements

xtree for UNIX retails for $295.00 US, and will be available in late August through the vendor's distributor network, which includes Ingram Micro, Kenfil, Merisel, Software Resource, and XTree Authorized Resellers, which include Egghead, Software City, Software Etc., and other nationwide chains.

For more information, contact Fusion International, Vice-President Marketing, Dale J. Beckles, at 416/866-8592.

xtree for Unix requires SCO UNIX V/386 release 3.2, SCO Xenix 386 release 2.3.2 and higher, and Interactive Systems UNIX V/386 3.2.

XTree Company also publishes XTreeGold and XTree Easy, the industry standards in disk management software for the IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 and compatible computers; and XTreeNet, the leading file and disk manager for Novell network administrators.

v. xtree for UNIX Systems 1.1
-----------------------------

XTree announces xtree for UNIX systems version 1.1 supporting SCO UNIX V/386 release 3.2, SCO Xenix 386 release 2.3.2 and higher, Interactive Systems UNIX V/386 3.2, Intel 386/486 versions of System V Release 4, or SunOS versions 4.0.3 to 4.1.x on SPARC workstations.

xtree for UNIX systems version 1.1 allows UNIX users to avoid cryptic, must-look-up UNIX commands in favor of simple one or two-keystroke commands. New features include added support for Intel 386/486 version of UNIX System V Release 4 and SunOS for SPARC workstations. The $295 utility also adds the ability to log tar, bar, and cpio archives making it easier to manage backup and restore functions. xtree for UNIX systems version 1.1 can work in X-Windows environments as well as with character-based terminals. The clear benefit is that users who switch between GUI and character-based environments no longer lose their file management capabilities.

When xtree for UNIX systems is launched, users are greeted with the graphic representation of their files in a meaningful tree-like display well-known to DOS XTree users. Although xtree for UNIX systems sports commands such as tag/untag, filespec, global, showall, autoview, prune, graft, split screen, etc. common to other XTree products, that is just the beginning. xtree for UNIX systems is not just a collection of separate disk management utilities, or a set of individual tools designed for MS-DOS and transported to UNIX. xtree for UNIX systems is an integrated utility that takes full advantage of the UNIX operating system and offers system administrators and users a new and better way to organize, manage and protect valuable information.

vii. XTree for Windows 1.5
--------------------------

Xtree Upgrade Supports Windows For Workgroups;
Adds Program Launching And Other Features

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA. -- Jan. 12, 1993 -- XTree Company announced that XTree for Windows 1.5 will not only support Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, but will contain a new Windows tool for menuing, scripting and program launching, edit and print features and drag and drop source capability.

Expected to ship in late February, the product will retail for a price of $99 (U.S.).

This means that XTree for Windows users can "share", or make available their drive(s) and directories to other members of their workgroups. Data can be shared in read only, read and write or conditionally (based upon password). Moreover, shared drives and directories on other workgroup PCs can be accessed with XTree for Windows.

XTree for Windows will also provide support for Microsoft's messaging application program interface (MAPI), giving users the ability to select one or more files and mail them as attachments to other users on Windows for Workgroups networks.

Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) and Network DDE (NetDDE) are also supported by XTree for Windows 1.5 through macro scripts in a new feature to be included with the upgrade -- a program launching utility. This will let users in Windows for Workgroups-based networks share information in real time with other DDE applications.

This new Windows tool for menuing and scripting provides movable or fixed "toolbars" which can be used with specific applications. Each icon on the toolbar can perform functions such as launching applications, network log-on, file saving, etc. Functions can be defined by the user with a complete Visual Basic-compatible scripting/macro language and can even be executed on a time-scheduled basis.

This new program launching feature in XTree for Windows can even act as a replacement for Windows' Program Manager, giving the user greater control over desktop operations.

The new upgrade will also contain an enhanced Windows version of XTree's popular edit and print features. Any preferred editor may be installed and used. The print command allows binary, text or graphics files to be selected and printed or viewed and printed. Tree and directory windows may also be printed.

Another exciting addition to the XTree for Windows upgrade is a drag and drop source capability, enabling files to be dragged outside of XTree and dropped onto other applications supporting this capability, such as Norton Desktop, Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Print Manager.

In announcing XTree's support for Windows for Workgroups, Bob Kimball, XTree's vice president of marketing said, "XTree has always been responsive to the suggestions of its users. Our support of Windows for Workgroups makes obvious sense and is an extension to our expertise in traditional file and disk management."

viii. XTree Tools for Networks
------------------------------

Complete Suite of LAN Management Tools;
Provides All-In-One Software Solution In Single Integrated Package

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA -- Jan. 25, 1993 -- Expanding further into the network management arena, XTree Company today began shipping XTree Tools for Networks, Novell Edition, previously announced at NetWorld/Dallas. Designed for and by LAN administrators, XTree Tools for Networks is a complete suite of  management tools every LAN manager needs to become a more effective and pro-active professional. Reasonably priced, it carries a suggested retail price of $695 per server (U.S. MSRP); each additional server is $395 (U.S. MSRP). The product is available worldwide through XTree's network of qualified resellers, VARs and distributors.  Corporate site licenses can be obtained directly from the Company. "Our primary goals in designing Tools was to "demystify" and simplify LAN management," said King Lee, XTree's president and CEO. "We're presenting a set of building blocks to LAN managers -- offering them real solutions and solid advice.  We've designed this product to give them an advanced "degree" in LAN management, as well as affording them an opportunity to become more valuable professionals for their companies," he added. Lee said XTree believes XTree Tools for Networks is a good start in accomplishing these goals.  "It not only contains the tools necessary  to react to and fix  problems, it shows LAN managers how to become pro-active and avoid problems from happening in the first place." XTree Tools for Networks consists of seven basic modules, all with one common interface.  They are: configuration management, server monitoring, workstation monitoring, configuration backup and restore, QuikStat, WatchLAN and NetTrack.

CONFIGURATION MANAGER - This module lets you change and document the server configuration. Because it allows modification of users, groups, queues and file server information (i.e., system files and login scripts), it effectively replaces NetWare's SYSCON utility. It provides the means to make these changes and gives before and after reports of the configuration(s) changed. Information is displayed on one screen eliminating the need of moving between multiple layers of different menus, thus minimizing keystrokes. Moreover, Configuration Manager has features not found in SYSCON such as Supervisor Equivalents, which locates all users with supervisor privileges and displays them in one window. A pop-up Info Box relays information at any time about any object on your network; i. e., cryptic user names or unfamiliar group definitions; Reports, see who and what makes up your network; Simplified Edit, lets you see and change trustee directory assignments and rights while scrolling through group/user lists; Disk Summary, summarizes disk space usage and helps you keep track of usage for the entire network; and Copy/Paste, quickly copy and paste information to single or multiple destination(s).

SERVER MONITOR - Providing valuable information about server performance, this module also helps interpret its significance. With its built-in reporting feature, Server Monitor provides a view of the network to help maximize performance and minimize problems. It gives standard FCONSOLE functionality with reporting capabilities. Because information can be printed and saved, changes in network performance over time can be observed.
XTree Tools for Networks own NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) provides extensive details about the 3.1x environment, including server performance statistics. Not found in any other product, it also provides command capabilities heretofore only available through NetWare RCONSOLE. With Server Monitor, you can print SET parameters, change them and load and unload NLMs -- without using RCONSOLE.

WORKSTATION MONITOR - This module displays information about the configuration and performance of workstations connected to the network. Static information -- such as Shell, Driver and IPX/SPX versions -- is provided, along with graphic, real-time analysis of each. This enables a network administrator to analyze dynamic packet information. Performance differences between workstations are visually highlighted by scrolling through the connection list. Workstation Monitor provides a way to analyze the relationship between hardware/software and network performances. With a TSR loaded in memory of a connected workstation, information on computer type, bios, video type and memory map is displayed, allowing you to control remote workstations on your keyboard and edit those files remotely. Moreover, the reporting capability allows you to generate a configuration report for every workstation connected to the network.

CONFIGURATION BACKUP & RESTORE - Because network backups are an integral part of network management, XTree Tools for Networks Backup&Restore utility lets you quickly save the NetWare bindery (a special-purpose database that stores vital network information, like users, groups and queues) and other essential network information, and restore it in the event of corruption or deletion. This can be stored to a floppy disk, hard drive or even the network drive. In addition to the bindery, it captures system files, trustee rights, login scripts and printer configuration data files. While not part of the bindery, this data is stored by NetWare on the file server.

QUIK STAT - Designed to help in testing network performance and identifying potential problems before they happen. An extensive list of over 100 tests, for both NetWare 2.x and 3.x, makes preventive network management easier. You select a value or condition as the "norm" for each test -- anything beyond the norm is alerted. For example, you set a performance threshold of 90 percent on a file server's disk space utilization -- an allowable limit prior to reevaluating your disk storage needs. QuikStat functions like a camera, giving an instant picture of your network's performance. Each "snapshot" immediately warns if any test in the list has exceeded the threshold set for it, displaying the actual value of any failed test. A command line option allows the program to be run from a DOS prompt or within a batch file. For instance, QuikStat can be run from a batch file at a certain time of day to look for performance problems. It also can be made part of your login script and set to display warning messages for failed tests, and is ideally suited for testing information which does not quickly change or need to be monitored on a continual basis. Used with WatchLAN, it is an excellent testing utility.

WATCH LAN - A workstation based runtime testing and event notification program providing continuous monitoring of user-defined thresholds and activates a variety of notification functions (i.e., MHS, cc:Mail, digital paging, 25th line messaging, execute program, execute batch file), included in the program and defined by the network administrator. With over 100 tests for both NetWare 2.x and 3.1x, it lets you set unique thresholds for each network you monitor. A node testing capability is included, letting you check for a specific node address such as an SNA gateway or print server. Baseline results from NetTrack may also be imported, eliminating the need to key in performance sampling results. WatchLAN lets you set the frequency of the polling intervals and maintains a file which logs the results of each test cycle. This list is constantly updated and can be saved and/or printed and is password-protected to prevent unauthorized access to the workstation.

NET TRACK - A utility for collecting, averaging, accumulating, displaying and logging the performance related statistics of the File Server -- allowing the system administrator to better determine trends and plan future network growth. NetTrack can be used to monitor real-time, average, peak and accumulated levels for both user defined intervals as well as activity over time. It presents the information in realtime on the screen and also logs it to disk, for later review. NetTrack is also a tool for analyzing any changes to the network (i.e., new users or applications; hardware, software or configuration changes) having the ability to affect its performance. With a baseline of normalcy determined, system administrators are able to take measures to resolve problems at the source. Because statistics on many network activities are maintained internally, it is easy to identify time periods associated with peak resource requirements and potential bottlenecks to File Server performance. With this information in the log file, everything needed to justify recommendations for possible reconfiguration or hardware changes to help improve network performance is at your fingertips.

ix. XTree Net 2.5
-----------------

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA -- May 24, 1993 --  XTree Company is now shipping the XTreeNet 2.5 upgrade integrating XTreeGold's advanced file, directory and disk management features, designed specifically for Novell NetWare Managers.

Long a favorite of NetWare administrators, XTreeNet is the first file management product allowing management of server volumes and disks on local or remote workstations.  XTreeNet's tools allow network administrators to quickly organize NetWare file systems and manage user and group access to files and directories in one cohesive environment.

XTreeNet allows you to connect to any network server, and/or perform peer-to-peer file management of a remote workstation, from any workstation on the network with just a 7K TSR.  Up to 26 network, local or remote drives can be mapped.  Reports on volume/directory organization, including contents and access rights to any network printer can be generated.

Both current and new users will like the new pull-down menus which make command selection quick and easy whether or not they use a mouse.  All the familiar XTree single-key command menus are still available.  XTreeNet 2.5 adds ZIP archiving of files for faster compression and expansion, while
minimizing the size of the archived files and ensuring greater compatibility with other users and bulletin boards.

Greatly expanded viewer capabilities include support for many programs, including word processing, database and spreadsheets files.  More than 50 applications are supported.  Files created in supported native formats can be viewed;  associated applications may even be executed while viewing a file within the XTreeNet program.  Autoview and formatted view capabilities have
also been enhanced for viewing many graphic files, including AutoCAD. Moreover, lists of files in a specified directory, as well as their contents, may be simultaneously viewed.

Users can move files to other disks and volumes safely, with less keystrokes; before automatically deleting files, the new copy is verified.  To significantly speed up tasks on large hard disks, start XTreeNet with a command line prompt for partial logging of the directory tree, one level of
the tree, the current branch or directory, or tree structure only, releasing all file information.  And, because the Release command can now partially release file information, memory is freed to perform operations not previously possible.  A new capability to compare files across directories
and volumes allows searching for unique or duplicate files in order to keep the newest and delete the unwanted, saving space on your server. Oops! the new DOS-level undelete allows easy restoration of accidentally erased files.

Other new features include new Branch logging and window displays;  added copy and move capabilities;  longer file specifications;  increased command history saves and displays 16 entries;  easy toggle of upper and lower case display;  speedy navigation through directory and file windows;  new command line options for greater initialization control;  page headers;  single or  multiple passes of Wash (secure file erasure) for greater security;  new configuration options (i.e., hotkeys);  filespecs toggle.

XTreeNet 2.5 retails for $495;  with server extensions at $295 each. Registered users of XTreeNet may upgrade for $95 and $75 per server extension.  Registered users of any other XTree product may upgrade for $249 for the first server;  $149 for each server extension.  It is available through XTree's network of computer dealers, software resellers, mail order resellers and superstores.  All prices quoted are in U.S. dollars.

xii. XTreeGold for Windows 4.0
------------------------------

Central Point Introduces XTreeGold 4.0 for Windows
Keystroke-Compatible with DOS Version,
Supports Chicago's Long Filenames

BEAVERTON, Ore. Sept.7, 1994 Symantec's Central Point Division today introduced XTreeGold 4.0 for Windows, the first Windows version that is keystroke- and feature-compatible with the popular XTreeGold for DOS. XTreeGold 4.0 for Windows is Chicago-ready with long filename support and adds new and enhanced customer-requested features. The product replaces XTree 2.0 for Windows.

XTreeGold 4.0 for Windows is designed for the more than one million users who have made XTreeGold for DOS their favorite file manager. XTreeGold for DOS users told us they wanted a Windows version that gave them full keystroke compatibility with their familiar DOS product, so they could take advantage of its powerful shortcuts. For the first time, XTreeGold 4.0 for Windows does that. It's a full superset of the best-selling XTreeGold for DOS, fully enhanced for the Windows environment, said Sioux Fleming, product manager at Central Point. In addition, the new version is designed for Windows users who would like more power and functionality than they find in the Windows File Manager.

New features and benefits in XTreeGold 4.0 for Windows include:

    * Keystroke compatibility with XTreeGold.

    * Keystroke controls ensure maximum productivity for users who prefer them to

    * menu- or mouse-based controls.

    * A simple toggle allows users to switch between XTree keystroke- and standard file manager modes.

    * Chicago-ready. Many XTreeGold users are likely to be early adopters of the next major release of Windows. They can use XTreeGold for Windows now with their current version of Windows, then, because it supports long filenames, use it with Chicago later.

    * New viewers for Microsoft Word v6, Excel v5, Lotus 1-2-3 v4, AutoCAD and JPEG. Users say that viewing files is the most important function of XTreeGold and this enhancement ensures they can continue to use viewers with latest popular applications.

    * Expanded PKZip 2.x support. Now users can construct large zips across multiple diskettes, easily create self-extracting EXEs, configure compression methods, and password-encrypt archives.

    * File Companions. The File Companions feature lets users access common file management tasks such as copy, delete, rename, and even more powerful functions such as view, compress/expand and SmartFind(, where users need them most inside the Open and Save dialog boxes of any Windows application.

    * SmartTabs. SmartTabs lets users create custom views of the file list, each with its own filter, sort options and detail, and provides the ability to quickly switch between different file list displays with a single click (e.g., all files sorted alphabetically, deleted files only, and data files sorted by type.)

    * Printing from viewers. Viewers become even more useful with this new feature, allowing users to print files even without the native application running or even present on the hard disk.

    * Selecting files across directories or drives. Users gain greater flexibility and productivity in managing files from different directories or drives in one tree, e.g., tag and copy all .DOC files across an entire drive.

    * Directory Synchronization. This is useful when updating files between desktop and network, or transporting files between desktop and laptop.
