All,

I just found this page tonight. It's like I've *finally* found some people who understand me...

Why are other file managers so bad? I often ask the same question. Not only why are other file managers so bad, but also how people -- and I mean professional developers, such as myself -- can possible live with them? How a professional developer can waste his day messing around with the Windows Explorer is quite beyond my comprehension.

A kind of hilarious situation has developed at one of my client's sites, which you all might appreciate. All of the developers there kid me about how I still use an "archaic" tool like XTree. Well, I finally got sick of it, and I put a serious offer on the table. I offered a $100 bet to all of them, as follows: We can mutually define a suite of 10 file management tasks. I have to use XTree -- they can use anything BUT Xtree or ZTree. The person who completes the tasks the fastest takes the $100. Guess what? No takers. And there never will be any takers, of course. Because there is simply no faster and more powerful way to manage files. ALl I can say is "Long Live XTree, and it's successors!!!".

And thanks for this site. It's nice to know there are people like me still around who value productivity over the latest GUI gizmos.

Tom
