No, I do use them (although most of the programs I use are fairly configurable and I have those functions assigned to different keys) -- It is not the movement that is awkward per se, it is the movement in this particular context where I have my hands on the main keyboard (I ain't flexible enough anymore to hit the arrows from the main keyboard...).

I see no reason why both sets of keys could not be available, I can even see having the ' ' keys step to the next "period" while the ctrl-arrow key step to the next period or blank (or maybe even underscore...). I just would NOT like to see the ctrl-arrow keys used to the exclusion of the ' ' keys in this context (I believe we are talking about the rename here, NOT navigation...) since those keys are not "usable" (in the context) in any other way...
