In Response To: This is an old XTGOLD request. (Dan LeGate)

Extending the shift-letter functionality is, of course, one of those truely obvious suggestions, and I am not suprised that it was made before...

As to the "edit" keys, I would disagree about just using the various cursor keys, for the following reasons:

1) I feel that they are more awkward, especially the ctrl-arrow keys.
2) The keys and usages we have been talking about have mnumonic meanings,

which makes them MUCH easier to remember...
3) Many of the cursor keys (at least the easy/non-ctrl ones) already have

meanings, especially with regard to the history, and I think it might

be better to preserve them for posible extensions to the history

handling which would apply to ALL histories, not just filenames...

I could deal with a configuration option to specify keyboard-key/cursor-key usage, but I think John and I both prefer using some of the keyboard keys for these functions rather than the cursor keys... The keys we are suggesting don't have any usage in that context anyway, so I'm not sure where the problem arises...
