Release Current Directory

While we are discussing directories, and releasing of same, I thought I'd scan the archives to look for similar items which might be appropriate to deal with at the same time.

I didn't have to go far to find the suggestion by Ken Meece, and enthusiastically supported by Dan, that we add a capability of releasing, (unlogging), the files in the current, (highlighted), directory only.

You've got my vote! This would be a *most* helpful feature. I've *often* wished this were available. To be able to do this without disturbing the state of the file tagging and directory logging which is subordinate to the current level would be most helpful.

It would seem to be a relatively easy thing to do, too, right Kim? It's a state which can be arrived at by more laborious means, so no new displays would be necessary.

If so, the only thing remaining would be to agree on the best way command it. I don't like going to the Alt-Release menu for this, as it's too simple a function, and IMOH, too commonly needed. I'd rather see a single Alt-keystroke do it, so what better than Alt-Minus?

The only downside of using this key, I think, is that you'd have to use the "-" key on the main keyboard, not the one on the keypad. I could be wrong, but I don't think you can Alt-Minus on the keypad. This would affect only those who are now in the habit of using the keypad for this key. But, of course, using any other key would take us to the main keyboard anyway, so nothing's really lost. The only other implication is that when it's eventually added to the Help file, it will have to be pointed out there that only the main "-" key will work.

Also, since this would be a hidden function, like the "+", "-" and "*" keys are now, no menu changes would have to be made.

Any thoughts?
