OK, Mathias, I understand. This means that starting with a period may be more common than I thought.

Are you suggesting that the current Rename function be changed so that starting with a period does NOT change just the extension? I assume you are, as currently I think it's impossible to use ZTree's Rename to name a file like you want. (Try it and let me know if I'm wrong).

Since my suggestion *would* allow you to still edit the name to start with a period, it would seem preferable to the current Rename function. It seems it would become a question then of how many ZTreeWin, (and I emphasize *Win*), users would be adversely affected by applying this to the Copy/Move as well.

Keep in mind that if the name *already* started with a period, then either the Tab or my suggested Enter key would preserve it. And if the leading period was the *only* period in the name, then my suggested Period key would duplicate the name and leave the cursor on the second character. In any case starting with the Period key would *not* preclude naming it any way you wanted, it just would not default as the first character, as any other first keyboard character would.

Of course, some other key could be used to provide Walter's suggested function, (like a function key - Ugh), but it seems nothing would be as intuitive as the Period key.

Regards,
John
