Forum on listserv ?

I already discuss this matter with Mathias, but I would like to hear more opinion.

There is little doubt in my mind that this forum is useful. However, having to read, browse, and write online through a Web page is not only slow for me (I have a 10 seconds delay between each message), but costly in connection time (I pay by the minute, here), and not practical for writing email (no spell checker, etc.). Another think is I don't like to post messages to a Forum without having copies of my own messages and related replies.

Here is my suggestion: run a listserv Xtree Forum instead. Posting will be automatically send to participants in their email box. Much easier to run. Still, the postings could be ALSO available from this Web site. This is simple to do: every posting to the listserv will be sent automatically to the Web Site. In another words, having the best of two worlds.

I ran myself a listserv for a while, and it is very very easy to do. Running a listserv will also avoid users to check all the time the Web-Forum to see if they have answers to their postings. I strongly believe it will actually increase participation (which is still low: how many different person actually posted to the Web-Forum site ? 10? 20?)

The listserv would be also useful to sent any relevant messages (Web update, Ztree updates, even a newsletter?).

What do you think ?
