Others have also been asking for the partial Untag or variants (see the
"bugs in ZTree" board), so another "vote" is welcome...

As to your other problem, I assume you are tagging files as part of the
process... Not as a solution but maybe a quicker fixup than going back to
the beginning, couldn't you just untag directories from the directory view
at some point -- it works very nicely at the directory, not branch, level,
steps to the next directory (if you have to do more), etc.
