Without X11 on Linux

I'm trying to use UnixTree on an older laptop that really doesn't have the horsepower to support X11. Thus, I didn't load it up. Now I first fetched the bundle and tried to install it (it needed an X11 shared library), then I tried to fetch the source and compile it, it needed an X11 include file. All I really want to do is use UnixTree on one pof the console terminals. On another machine (that has X11 installed) this is possible. Why do I need X11 installed if I won't be using it. Maybe there is an option that I can build so I won't need any references to X11. Yes, it will be limited, but I don't care. All I want to do is run on a simple terminal window. (*SIGH*)
