A very good question! Some of us forget that there are people who may never have heard of XTree (or ZTree) before.

Here on the XTree Fan Page website there are several "definitions" of XTree:

The Introduction page at >http://xtfp.arkanda.net/intro.htm has a fairly concise and non-technical description including a quote from an early XTree manual. UNFORTUNATELY, this page doesn't seem to be linked from the main "directory" page that I can tell.

The History page at >http://xtfp.arkanda.net/x20hist.htm has a more extensive description, including pictures of early XTree and ZTree screens.

The Reviews page at >http://xtfp.arkanda.net/x52revs.htm has reprints of several magazine articles describing various version of XTree.

And, from the "directory view" at >http://xtfp.arkanda.net/x10dirja.htm, there are lots of other interesting facts, tips, tricks and stories about XTree and it's many clones.
